Lawyers of James Gyakye Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North are asking the Cape Coast High Court to dismiss the petition brought against James Gyakye Quayson’s citizenship.
After winning the Parliamentary site for Assin North Mr. James Gyakye Quayson was sent to court by one Michael Ankomah for having a dual citizenship card.
Quayson was charged of having Canadian citizenship and therefore can’t be a Member of Parliament in Ghana.The Cape Coast High Court in the central region issued an injunction preventing him from holding himself as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency to vote in the election of the Speaker of Parliament.
Lawyers of Mr. Quayson mentioned that their client was already filling to renounce his Canadian citizenship before filing his nomination for the MP.
Meanwhile, lawyers of Mr. Quayson asked the Cape Coast High Court to dismiss the petition against their client since the lawyers of Michael Ankomah has not filed a contempt case against the Assin North MP.
